About this event
Join us at Cinemapolis for a special community screening of THE TERRITORY, a new documentary directed by Alex Pritz and produced by Will N. Miller, both 2009 graduates of Ithaca High School. Alex and Will will Zoom in afterward for a virtual Q&A. Buy tickets here.
Distributed by National Geographic, THE TERRITORY provides an immersive, on-the-ground look at a small Indigenous group's fight to protect its portion of the Brazilian Amazon against encroachment by farmers and illegal settlers. It's a local story with global implications.
With awe-inspiring cinematography and richly textured sound design, THE TERRITORY takes audiences deep into the Uru-eu-wau-wau community, whose young videographers provide some of the most moving footage.
The film also provides unprecedented access to the farmers and settlers illegally burning and clearing protected Indigenous land.
THE TERRITORY won two awards at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and has received rave reviews from The New York Times, IndieWire, and other publications. Collider called it "visually magnificent" and "revelatory." The Hollywood Reporter called it "complex, layered, and thoughtful" and Variety called it "riveting."
Ithaca-based Homelands Productions, led by Story House co-director Jonathan Miller, served as the film's nonprofit fiscal sponsor.
THE TERRITORY opens at Cinemapolis on Friday, August 26 and will be at the cinema at least a week. We urge you to see it there even if you can't attend the special screening on August 28. The sound design and music are extraordinary, and you will want to catch it on the big screen!
