About this event
The first-ever Black to the Future film festival celebrates the rich history of films that center Black stories from America and the global African diaspora. It includes a Black silent film, modern experimental shorts, classic feature films, a sing-along musical, discussions, and more.
Note: The festival schedule is still being finalized. Tickets will be available soon at cinemapolis.org. Check storyhouseithaca.org for more details or follow Story House on Facebook or Instagram.
The festival launches on Thursday, April 27, at 7 pm with a showing of several short films selected by Ithaca College film faculty member Shola Ajayi. On Friday, April 28, at 7, a DJ and singer accompany the 1919 Black-made silent film Within Our Gates. Other highlights include a screening of The Wiz Live on Saturday, April 29, at 11 am, with the amazing SingTrece leading a sing-along. Several feature films are sheduled for Saturday evening.
The Black to the Future Film Festival is organized by Story House Ithaca and supported by the Park Foundation, Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County, the Learning Farm, Khuba International, CAN Cooperative Media, and Tompkins Community Bank.
